Winter Hive Prep in the Apiary

Thank you to all the folks who braved the rain to help ‘put the bees to bed’ before winter. We had a nice turn out and with all the helping hands were were able to get all six hives, reorganized and reduced. We added homesote boards for moisture control and added insulation under the top cover.  This year we are trying out deep inner covers which makes feeding sugar during winter simple and quick.  We finished with silver bubble wrap insulation and black paper.  Now it’s up to the bees!

An especially big thank you to Dawn Beck for leading the day and bringing all the supplies!
